Test Info / SAT, SAT II, ACT & AP

Every college and university has its own requirements for which tests you need to take before applying. Most schools require that applicants take either the SAT I or ACT, and some require additional SAT II subject tests. Search for the school(s) you are interested in and find out which tests you should take, either by calling the school's admissions office or looking for "admissions requirements" on the school's website.

Generally, these tests should be completed by fall of your senior year. It is a good idea to get started early, in the beginning of your junior year for example, so that you will have plenty of time to retake a test if you want to improve your score. Talk to your school counselor to find out when tests will be offered at your school or in the area.

In addition to the SAT and ACT, many colleges will be interested in your Advanced Placement test scores. If you do well on an AP test, you may be eligible to earn college credit in that subject area. As schools have different policies regarding AP test credit, you should do your research first to find out which tests and scores your school of interest will accept.
