Careers / Resume Building

Introduction

Whether it is during the regular school year or just for the summer, you may want to get a job at some point during high school. In addition to the information you provide on an application for employment, creating your own resume and/or writing a cover letter is a great way to impress employers and further emphasize your qualifications.

A resume is a brief summary of your qualifications, education, and experiences relevant to your job search objective. Employers will spend less than 30 seconds reviewing your resume; therefore, the information must be conveyed in a clear, well-organized style. To get started on your resume, make a list of information about yourself—details of your experiences including pertinent coursework, paid and volunteer work, awards, clubs, research projects and special skills. (Tip: most of this information can already be found in your ScholarScript!)

The sections of a resume are listed under Resume Format.
