Community service and volunteer work
are integral aspects of your high school resumé. Volunteering shows your dedication to giving back to your community, and helps to build your character as a well-rounded student. Your involvement in community service is very important to colleges and scholarship organizations, as applications nearly always request information about volunteer work you have done.
Examples of community service and volunteer work include:
- AIDS Walk, Relay for Life, March of Dimes, etc.
- Community Blood Drive
- school or community fundraisers (car washes, bake sales, selling tickets at a school event, etc.)
- community clean-up
- unpaid tutoring or mentoring
- unpaid work at homeless shelters, animal shelters, retirement homes, hospitals, etc.
- unpaid work at your local Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, or youth center
- service through church or religious groups (such as charity work and missions)
